note to self: staying up until 2am did not make for a pleasant morning. but hey, at least it was friday!
i woke up a little later than usual and i was moving rather slow. three days in a row of cross fit and very little sleep isn't a good combo. last night i forgot to pack lunch, so while i was getting ready kevin packed it for me. Before i left, i made some coffee (black) and grabbed some cantaloupe + honey dew. easier to eat while driving. when i got to work i was still hungry. (i suppose cantaloupe + honey dew is more of a snack than a meal) luckily, kevin was two steps ahead. he packed two hard boiled eggs and a small piece of chicken. (leftovers from day two) looked something like this...

| tasted better than it looked, trust me! |
work was fairly busy, most of the morning was spent running around the office preparing for my photo shoot on monday. by lunchtime i wasn't really hungry (possibly the late breakfast or that i'm not use to eating breakfast at all?) so i put it off and just grabbed another cup coffee before my 2:30 meeting. it wasn't until about 3:30-4 when i started to feel hungry. i had the same thing as day two (tuna wrapped in romaine) just with blueberries instead of cantaloupe. for dinner, leftovers from last night.
during the fall of last year, i started experimenting with different juices. mostly combinations of spinach, kale, cucumbers, apples, and bananas. about a month or so, i was grocery shopping at whole foods and stumbled upon blue print juice. really...ten dollars a bottle!!! of course, i caved in and bought one. i went with kale, apple, ginger, romaine, spinach, cucumber, celery, parsley and lemon. i justified the purchase because of the pretty packaging... i wasn't entirely sold on the taste, but the bottle made for a great souvenir! this past sunday, while we were at whole foods, i decided to browse past the juice isle again. this time i went for the pineapple, apple, and mint! oh my god, amazing. i am going to try to make my own, i'm sure these things are made with a fancy juicer of some sort, but i'll be using my good old hamilton beach blender (best $20 ever spent) so we'll see how it goes...i'll keep you posted. i will eventually look into purchasing a fancy juicer, but for the cost i want to make sure i'm getting the most for my money. any recommendations? also, most sites i've been reading about what is and is not paleo says stray away from juices. only drink water. i suppose before i starting blending all my fruit i should ask, what are the guidelines for juicing? paleo or not paleo?
one thing i've learned in the past few days...kevin has never eaten honey dew, cantaloupe, or blueberries! so, i made him try all three. thumbs up to honey dew + blueberries.
tonight's agenda | thought about going for a run, but decided i needed a rest day instead. so i will be spending the remainder of the evening on the couch, catching up with american horror story. maybe i'll fit a run in before i visit with baby gemma tomorrow.
4 days down, 26 to go...

Hey Sheena, I will try to shed some light on the juice thing for you. It is about a carbs to fiber/protein ratio. When you juice, it extracts the juice (duh) and some vitamins/minerals but the fiber and if applicable, protein get left behind in the juicer. So you are taking in the (natural) sugar calories without the stuff that keeps you feeling full and satisfied for longer. This can often lead people to eat more to feel satisfied. However, if you are blending you are still getting the whole vegetable and fruit with all its fibery goodness so the juice would have the same nutrition profile as the ingredients put in. Hope that helps. With love from your cousin Brandy who is in awe of you for even attempting the paleo thing.
